A very American design, the traditional resort chair with its deep, contoured seat and oversized arms originated in the Adirondack mountain resorts of New York state around the turn of the century. It is still possible to find these chairs being handmade in the resort communities, and mass-produced chairs have begun to proliferate. But, if you want to capture the essence of the original Adirondack chair ó charmingly handmade and very often from scrap lumber ó you will have to build one or two yourself. This design keeps the traditional appearance alive with its tapered barrel-shaped back and curved seat slats. Wide, curved arms and graceful support brackets add strength and style. All parts are shown full-size on the plan for direct tracing to your lumber. Just hand tools and basic skills will produce great results! The plan packet includes plans to build a matching side table, ottoman and love seat.
