Everyone loves to get away. Who doesn't dream of taking off for the weekend, or even the week,
waving goodbye to stress and saying hello to relaxation? Picture the moonlight dancing across a hidden lake,
breathtaking mountain views and listening to the wind whisper through the pines.
Finding the perfect spot is just one of the many exciting decisions that come with building your own home.
For Nelson Jimenez of North Carolina, the choice was simple: He wanted "to own a second home in the mountains."
For his location, Nelson chose Piney Creek, N.C., in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Next, Nelson had the task of choosing just the right home plan to complement a mountain setting.
Homeplans Plan PH-1686 caught his eye because of the "panoramic views from
all points within the house." The search was over.
Jimenez built his second home, but not until after he modified the plan here and there, to fit his specific needs.
The wraparound deck curls around three sides of the house, instead of just two as the plan intended.
In the living room, the fireplace was moved from the tip of the prow to the rear of the room.
Now, all Nelson has to do is take it all in. When asked about his favorite feature of the home,
the answer is simple: "The ability to see views outside the home from all locations," he says.
The spacious, two-story living room is warmed by the handsome fireplace and also offers majestic windows
and sliding glass doors that meet in a prow-like formation. Jimenez added another pair of sliding glass doors in
the eat-in kitchen, for even more deck access. Two bright bedrooms and a full bath complete the main floor.
Upstairs, Nelson changed the spa room into a den, for a quiet place to read or study.
A charming balcony overlooks the living room, while the master bedroom boasts more impressive windows showcasing the beautiful mountain scenery.
Asked what the future holds for his relaxing second home, Nelson hints about a retirement. Can you blame him?
Nelson Jimenez made his dream come true. His second home is the perfect getaway,
and it is all customized, just the way he wants it. Just think—no hassles, no reservations,
just the ideal spot to get away from everything. Find yourself, or lose yourself. You deserve it.
