  • Herb and Sherry Paugh are no strangers to the building process and are now enjoying the fruits of their labor. Unable to find the right home on the market, they decided to build in Pleasant View, Tenn., about 30 miles northwest of Nashville. Getting away from the busy metropolis was attractive, as was the idea of owning more land on a wooded lot, which they got—nearly 18 tree-filled acres. They also found the right plan to fit their needs, Plan APS-2018. Sherry desired a good-sized family room, and Herb wanted enough space to entertain. But, the main thing they were looking for was "decent-sized secondary bedrooms," explains Herb. Lucky for them, the plan held all of the things they were looking for, plus an amazing master suite as an added bonus.

The stunning master suite is a luxurious retreat, complete with a beautiful tray ceiling, a huge walk-in closet and a private bath you have to see to believe. And those aren't even the Paughs' favorite amenities! The master suite's private morning porch is one of their favorite spots in the whole house. This private and soothing getaway is used "for reading and quiet," according to Herb. Across the room, another door leads to the rear deck, which is also accessed from the family room—a convenience that is definitely appreciated. "Being able to get out to the deck from two rooms is nice," says Herb.

The rest of the home is just as impressive, boasting a sun-drenched breakfast nook as well as a formal dining room and a heartwarming fireplace neatly positioned in the family room. The Paughs also brought in their own personal touches by transforming the living room into a home office with French doors, enlarging the rear deck and choosing an all-brick facade instead of the brick-and-stucco combination the plan called for.

In building their new home, the Paughs made sure they got everything they wanted—from Sherry's big family room and kitchen pantry to Herb's many acres of hunting land overlooked by a breezy back deck. For a family that enjoys trees, their 18 wooded acres must seem like a thousand acres. For the Paughs, Pleasant View, Tenn., has indeed lived up to its name.
