Felisha Roberson Levy's path toward building Plan E-2004 is
one filled with equal parts chance and determination. In
1995, the then-single school teacher stepped into a drugstore
to buy a hair-styling magazine. She found instead
one of our home plan magazines, which had been left on the
wrong shelf. Thinking that one day she might use ideas from
the magazine to build her own home, she bought it and
filed it away in a drawer.
A year later, she decided to build a home. "Since my two
older brothers had built their homes at the ages of 28 and 29,
I felt that I could do the same thing," she says.
In her search for inspiration, she drove through suburban
subdivisions, thinking that she would find the perfect home.
But "after looking for a while, I became disappointed
because most of the homes looked the same." Then she
remembered the magazine tucked away in the drawer. It was
in this magazine that she found "the unique and
distinguishing home that I had been looking for." She
ordered seven sets of blueprints,
then got started building her dream.
Now, years later, Felisha is married—and still teaching.
But she still loves her home, too, naming the open floor
plan and spacious master bedroom as her favorite features.
She looks to the future and ponders adding a swimming pool
and perhaps converting the garage into a game room. As it
is, though, the home continues to flaunt plenty of curb
appeal. "I have had so many admirers before and
after completion of my home," says Felisha.
Her home-building experience has been nothing short of a
miracle, says Felisha, who is grateful to her deceased
father for his "beautiful ideas, encouragement and
financial support for this miraculous project." His
support allowed her to build the home that won her heart.
