Greek Revival
(1825-1860) Greek Revival architecture began with public buildings and the style spread to home design via carpenter’s guides and pattern books. Greek Revival mansions (sometimes called Southern Colonial) sprang up throughout the South. Features include a pedimented gable, symmetrical shape, heavy cornice, wide frieze, and bold, simple moldings. Many Greek Revival houses also have an entry porch with columns, decorative pilasters and narrow windows around the front door.
